Mood Dial app showing five screens: Now Playing, Create Mood, Main Dial, Suggestions, and Mood Library

In short: Mood Dial is an iOS app that plays Apple Music based on how you feel. One customizable dial, thirty moods, tap play. It uses time of day and Apple Health data to suggest the right mood. Available on iPhone, iPad, CarPlay, Siri, widgets, and Control Center. Free to download with one free mood forever and 2 Mood Passes to explore. Built by independent developer Mohit Nandwani.

Mood Dial is a music app for iPhone and iPad that connects to Apple Music and plays songs based on how you feel. Instead of browsing genres, playlists, or search results, you turn a dial to a mood and tap play. Music starts in seconds.

The app has thirty built-in moods: Energize, Focus, Vibe, Unwind, Rock Out, Explore, Happy, Chill, Party, Romance, Nostalgia, Spiritual, Workout, Melancholy, Sophisticated, Raw, Dreamy, Confident, Traditional, Futuristic, Rebellious, Festive, Intimate, Mysterious, Aggressive, Inspiring, Thoughtful, Exotic, Sleepy, and Playful. You can also create your own moods by typing or speaking how you feel.

The Idea

Every music app asks "what do you want to listen to?" But most of the time, you don't know what you want to listen to. You just know how you feel. Tired after a long week. Buzzing after a morning run. Needing something to focus. That feeling is specific and real, but no app lets you start from there.

Mood Dial starts from that feeling. One question: how do you feel right now? That's the entire interface. A dial with your moods, a play button, and music that matches.

How It Works

Your dial holds two to six moods. You choose which ones from the library of thirty, or create your own. Turn the dial to a feeling, tap play, and Mood Dial searches Apple Music's catalog of over 100 million songs for music that matches. The selection is different every time. You hear familiar artists alongside things you've never encountered, from every genre, language, and decade.

The app also pays attention to your day. With permission, it reads Apple Health data like sleep quality, workout history, and energy levels. Combined with time of day and listening patterns, it suggests the right mood before you even think about what to play. On newer devices, on-device intelligence provides deeper contextual understanding. All data stays on your device.

Where It Works

Mood Dial runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 18 or later. It also works with CarPlay for hands-free mood selection, Siri for voice commands ("Play Focus on Mood Dial"), Shortcuts for automation, Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets for quick access, and Control Center for one-tap resume.

What It Costs

Mood Dial is free to download. When you first open the app, you pick one mood that's yours forever. You also get 2 Mood Passes to try any other mood, plus 3 free custom moods. No trial, no expiration.

Want more? Mood Passes let you play as you go — each pass unlocks a fresh mix of music for any mood. Or become a member for unlimited access to all 30 moods, unlimited custom mood creation, and every feature. Memberships are available monthly, yearly, or as a lifetime unlock, for individuals or families.

The app requires an Apple Music subscription to play music. Mood Dial is a companion to Apple Music, not a replacement.

Who Built It

Mood Dial is designed and developed by Mohit Nandwani, an independent iOS developer. Every part of the app, from design to code, is built by one person.
